My kid is not named after a camera | Cannon Daniel

When I was pregnant with my second baby we didn't know the gender until she was born. We also didn't know her name until after she was born. Boy or girl - we could NOT settle on a name. After she was born Milton said she looked like a Lena and I said OK - I was just ready for her to have a name at that point (incidentally I wasn't a fan of the name for the first few months).

Since we spent the better part of those 9 months thinking of names - it was a pastime that stuck around after she was born, even though we were not planning on having more kids (jokes on us).

One night we decided Cannon would be an awesome boy name - and a few months later when we got pregnant - before even finding out the gender (although I intuitively knew well before the ultrasound) we remembered that name - and stuck with it.

Given my job, people always assume he is named after a camera, which in retrospect makes sense. But REALLY - he is named after my dad - Chris Cannon. My dad has two girls, and my sister isn't having any kids, so I wanted to be able to pass down his name. Incidentally my love for photography comes from my dad without a doubt - although he was always more of a video guy then still photography. Admittedly I shoot with a canon camera, and always have, BUT I do so because of the name loyalty - even though there is no relation. My dad kept saying during my pregnancy that we were setting ourselves up for a strong willed rebel child with a name like that - and while he is only 6 months old- he is the happiest sweetest soul ever. Like seriously all you have to do it look in his direction and he gives the biggest grin and squeeks.

So now you know!

Also - I got a new canon (note the one N) on black friday - and the combination of Cannon with the new canon is pretty awesome if I do say so myself!

9:31 "I honestly have no idea what's going on with my body right now. . . Midwife said not to worry until it's actual contractions so don't be shocked if I call you later!"

10:09: "So. . . the midwife is on her way to come check me out. IDK whether to tell you to wait to confirm or to get your butt over here so you don't miss it."

I throw on some clothes and head to Daytona. . .

As I'm walking up the stairs I ask dad how she's doing "oh- yea she already had him"

NOOOOOO!

Most frazzled I run into the bathroom to find mom in the tub with her very brand new baby totally cool calm and collected. Sense of humor fully intact and this momma is clearly a seasoned birthing pro.

We met about 5 and a half years ago in a birthing class at the hospital as we prepared for the deliveries of our first born babes. So awesome to get to go full circle and be there for [or directly after] the delivery of her newest squish - who was just the most snugly guy ever!

St. Augustine Photographer | Project 365 : November

I love photography. I love looking at pictures, taking them, creating them - all of it. I have been so fortunate to turn what I love into a career. As this year went on I was photographing for my clients - but I wasn't creating anything for myself - and if I was I felt guilty because I had a million other things I 'should' be working on.

When I'm shooting for fun - I learn new tricks. I perfect old ones. I get to play around and make mistakes and just create without pressure.

So - this year I'm making a point to do just that. To stop- even if only for the briefest moment - pull out my camera and document what inspires me. I don't really have any guidelines other than that.

Every day for 365 days I will shoot something for myself. I'll blog 1-3 images from every day and share them with you bi-weekly to keep myself accountable. I would love your feedback. Some days I'm finding I'm more inspired then others, some images are better than others, but I make it a point to get my camera out every day regardless.

This batch of images I was drawn to do all black and white. Who knows if that will continue - or for how long. I am giving myself full creative control with this project and am excited to see where it takes me. I have a few things in mind that I would like to learn from this project - but as with most things in life - I will probably take away very different lessons then anticipated when it's all said and done.

So brace yourself for loads of pictures of my kids and likely lots of babbling from me.
