I was 37 weeks pregnant in a red cotton dress when I got married. On the beach in the company of a friend’s mom who was a notary, and another friend with a point and shoot camera- no one else. After we said “I do” we left and ordered takeout and watched a movie in bed. It was perfect. And I feel like that in and of itself explains why I don’t shoot weddings lol. But it’s a question I keep getting asked- so I’ll address it.
I don’t think weddings are important. There. I said it. And safe to say most brides would not agree with me. I really doubt a bride wants someone who doesn’t care about weddings in charge of documenting what they consider one of the most important days of their lives.
The stress. They money spent. The waste / it’s impact on our earth. It’s just not my cup of tea.
The marriage? Important. The commitment? Important. The day or day? Important.
Dont get me wrong - I’m all for celebration. And family and friends and music and food. These are some of the best things in life. The memories and stories are great. But that’s where it ends for me.
I appreciate the artistic beauty of wedding photographers. They are stunning. But they are not for me.
I don’t shoot weddings, and I don’t see that ever changing- no matter how good the money potential is.
